"Healthcare Is A Right, Not a Privilege"
Student Healthcare In Practice (SHIP) is a UCI undergraduate organization that primarily staffs and oversees free health clinics in Fullerton and Rowland Heights, CA. In recent years, we have expanded from providing not only medical services but also both dental and optometry services alongside managing a mobile clinic. We strive to not only bring awareness to the socioeconomic disparities in healthcare, but also to directly make a difference in the healthcare industry by serving underserved communities and providing quality healthcare for free. Additionally, we create an environment for our volunteers to grow both professionally and personally. Our volunteers at the clinic are able to receive hands-on experience by shadowing doctors, scribing, managing reception, educating patients on common healthcare needs and issues, and also are able to connect to a community of like-minded pre-health students. Within the same community, we also have dental clinic volunteers who are provided with the opportunity to act as the dental assistant, receptionist, and chairside assistant. Together, our SHIPmates strive to show that healthcare is a right, not a privilege.
